Bagley the Fiddler Woodcut

$50.00
This is a five-color woodcut and letterpress poster. Measures 12" x 18", limited edition of 100. Signed and numbered and ships in a sturdy tube.

When reading David McCullough's book, The Pioneers, about the founding of our town Marietta, Ohio, I was taken by an excerpt about a fiddler who was chased by wolves into a tree. I reached out to the special collections librarian at Marietta College to find out where this story came from. It turns out that the story was written in pioneer, Joseph Barker's memoir (see photo above). Like any good folk tale the story was then enhanced upon by Louise Zimmer in her book True Stories of Pioneer Time in 1987, then again by McCullough. And adding to the trail of this folklore I present this woodcut print telling the story of Bagley the Fiddler and his overnight encounter with a pack of wolves.
